tips for dark spots??

I'm extremely pale but I struggle with dark spots on my armpits, elbows and bikini line. im quite self conscious about it and it makes it difficult for me to wear tank tops and bathing suits in public. i am a thicker girl and i know friction plays a part. i know if i google there will be product recommendations but id rather know what has worked for people and their experiences.
