How long would you wait for a ring? 💍

From the time you get into a relationship until you get proposed to. How long would you really wait before you decided you waited enough and on to the next?

My husband and I got engaged on our 9 year anniversary and then didn't get married for another 3 years. We have been together for 15 years total so far. Marriage or a ring didn't change anything in our relationship other than having a piece of paper saying we were committed to each other.

For me, it would depend on my age and the stage of life I’m in. Right now, I’m 30 with a 2-year old son, and a baby girl I’m due with in September. If I were to start dating again, I wouldn’t mind waiting 4-5 years for a ring, but I also wouldn’t move myself and my children in with a man I was dating. I believe strongly that women need to protect themselves, which means not getting into any legal contracts of any kind (I.e., buying a home/car, renting a place together, etc.) without first having a legal contract of commitment (marriage). 
My husband proposed to me after dating for a year, and we were engaged for 9 months after that. Its worked wonderfully for us, and at the stage of life I was in when we got married, I wouldn’t have waited more than 3 years for him to propose. But marriage has always been important to me. My husband and I were young enough to not be established in careers yet or done with our advanced degrees. I knew I wasn’t going to move around the country for a man that wasn’t willing to make me his wife. So he knew his option was to either put a ring on it and we do this together, or he doesn’t and the relationship would have run its course by the time one of us picked up and moved for graduate school or jobs.

My husband waited 6 years. But honestly I would have waited longer. We had discussed marriage years prior. We were really young when we first started dating. We started dating at 16/17 and were married 22/23. He reassured me that he really wanted to marry me, so it didnt feel like i was left just waiting around.

At this point the time wouldn't matter. Me and my boyfriend haven't been together long but we've both decided we aren't going anywhere . So knowing how he feels the ring doesn't matter.

I waited almost 7 years for ring. We met when I was 18 and he was 19. We weren’t mature enough or ready for marriage yet. Flash forward we are now 33 & 34. Been married almost 6 years and have a 3 month old son. 
If I was older then I was though, I’d say maybe 3 years would be the limit.

3 years was my mark. Didn’t have to wait that long though, we were married before then.

My husband proposed 18 months into our relationship & i think that was perfect. Never even had time to wonder if he was ever going to. Lol i didnt expect it at all. We got married 2 years after that. Been together 15 years & married for 11 ♡

I gotta say, I used to have an answer for this & it used to be 2 years, but after finding the person I knew was right for me, I realized putting a limit on that is silly. We had talked about marriage & I knew it was coming eventually, but it didn’t need to be put on a timeline. You can’t rush the rest of your life. It would be different if we had discussed it & 5 years or something went by, because I would feel stringed along or something.. but once we had the conversation, I stopped caring about how long it took. I felt in my heart it was coming & if I had left after the 2 years and “moved on to the next” I surely wouldn’t have ended up with the right person. There would also be no guarantee I would even  get into a decent relationship that was headed towards marriage. If you decide to leave because you don’t get proposed to in a certain amount of time, you could end up being alone for even longer. Obviously I don’t think you should stay with someone who seems to have no plans to marry you, if that is your goal, but if you know they intend on marrying you, I wouldn’t rush it.

I think it’s different for everyone. We got engaged 6 yrs into our relationship. I wanted to get married so I asked him if we were on the same page or not considering how long we were together. If we weren’t on the same page then it probably would’ve ended. Been together for 10 yrs married for 4.
