Kids Birthday Party- bad host?

Ok you guys, this was my first kids “pre-school” birthday with my 5 year old so just curious if I’m being a judgmental biatch 🤪
I told the mom 2 weeks ago LO would love to come, but LO wants me to be there and if it’s Ok. She said sure. So there was another mom there too. 
The party went 10am-1pm we arrived half hour later and the kids already had almost finished the Birthday cake (10am)??? 12 was lunch and I found this not very host friendly, the mom never offered, us- adults a plate. Kids were done, we helped out with the clean up. There were plenty of leftovers. It’s not about that I desperately needed to eat lunch but at least give the options of your “guests” regardless big or small to feel welcomed!

If you came 30min late - yes things have started. Here the norm has been that the kids eat lunch first then cake, so if it says party starts at 11 then the food is served shortly after that, parents get to eat whats left afterwards. Same goes for cake.

Where I'm from, you feed all the guests when they're at your house or party (whether it's for a kid or not). You make sure you have enough food for EVERYONE that's going to be there, including parents and kids. But you also can't expect the host to hold food for you because you're late.

I’ve only been to one kids party where they catered for parents, and even then that was just tea and coffee, no food, every other party I’ve been to it’s just about the kids, also it sounds like it was a party where the parents didn’t need to stay, more of a drop off and pick up later situation, seen as it was just you and one other mum there? So that would make sense why she didn’t cater for parents too. When my nephew had his party, there was 30 kids and all the parents there too, my sister didn’t cater for the parents. But I would say that’s the norm x

At kids parties I’d always cater to include the adults as well, everyone needs to eat!

Did you ask for the itinerary of how the party was gonna go (i.e. what time the food would be served just in case you would need to feed yours beforehand if you thought she would he hungry sooner, what kind ot games and activities for the kids, etc). You say there was plenty of food left. Did you ask if you could eat too or assume it was kids only? Like someone else said, this sounds like it was a drop-off party with parents not really expected to stay and just you and 1 other parent were there. Most parties like this only cater to the amount of kids that are expected to attend, not the parents.  Ive only hosted and been to one birthday party with my daughter and both situations had enough food for the parents that wanted to attend, but was up to the parent to make their plate/ask if they could eat.

My kids are 7 and 4. We go to a lot of parties and I’ve never not stayed. Parties at someone’s house I’d expect all guests (including parents) to be fed, I wouldn’t look for the host parents to offer me a plate. Parties at spaces like trampoline parks, I’d wait for the host parents to offer. As far as the cake goes, whenever the birthday kid wants to do it, it happens. Could be beginning of the party, could be end, especially at a house party. Typically a party at a venue has a timeline set by the place for food/cake. Also, just to add, when a party has a scheduled start and end time, in my opinion it’s incredibly rude to show up late. Different if it’s an event with no end time.

If the kids had more than enough I wouldve just grabbed a plate, maybe she was just occupied and assumed it was a given that of course you can eat something. I have ADHD and am a terrible host because my head is overwhelmed and occupied even though I may look calm, I would probably forget to tell the adults to eat because to me it wouldnt need special permission.
