When would you go to L&D?

The hospital I am delivering at is a 2 hour drive from my house, so realistically by the time I get a family member to my house to keep my toddler and we get out the door I am looking at 2.5-3 hours between deciding to head to the hospital and actually getting there.

I am 38+6 right now, and this is my second birth - with my first my water broke at 39 weeks at home and I had my son within 10ish hours of that, however with that delivery I only had to travel about an hour to the hospital.

I am curious what you all think in terms of timing of contractions and when to head to the hospital, knowing that I have 2.5ish hours to get there - I know 5-1-1 is the general rule but typically I see that advice being given when people only have a half an hour or less to drive.
