Fetal Genetic Testing

Insurance told me on Friday they would 100% cover the cost of fetal genetic testing. My Dr office called today for a PA and they told them I was denied due to no enhanced risks. Out of pocket, the test will be $600.

I'm under the age of 35.

My family nor my husband's family have any history of chromosome abnormalities.

We have not had a child previously with abnormalities.

My dr is pushing for me to pay for the test because "you can never be too careful". My husband and I both agree we would be unable to raise a child with disabilities, however, we are uncertain we want to foot the cost for this test.

Any advice? ***edited to add- when I had my daughter, the blood test was "new" and not as common to recieve with most drs relying on the 20 week anatomy scan. Would this not be another way for us to detect abnormalities?
