IUD pain

Hi, I got my Mirena iud inserted on the 18th of November. I had some moderate cramping afterwards, but that went away. However, I’ve now been on my period for a week and have had constant moderate to severe cramping with an upset stomach, only relieved by 800 mg of ibuprofen. Is this normal? Has anyone had similar experience? Should I wait it out, or get it my iud removed? I have a history of heavy and painful periods, but none have ever been this bad.
