Checkup over the phone?!

My doctors office is doing my 18 week checkup over the phone. What is the point? If they’re not listening to heartbeat or doing a scan or testing my urine or anything. Like what is the purpose? I Can call if I have a problem anytime. I thought a checkup was an actual checkup. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Yeah. There’s a OBGYN shortage. Lots of places are doing virtual to cover appointments. If you’re low risk, you’re low risk and they’re perfectly fine.

I’ve has a few phone check ups but, I’d call and request an in person to check for heart beat if you’re concerned or if it’s been a while since the last time.

I mean… I have a few VERY crunchy friends who didn’t see a professional even once the entirety of their pregnancy, then birthed the baby out at home. 0 intervention- 0 appointments. Then went in a couple days later to report birth and get a birth certificate. 
We don’t technically need anything unless it’s a challenging pregnancy, crazy enough.
