do you think my cousin would be offended with the gift I gave?

I feel sad because I couldn't give a nicer gift to my cousin this year because I was rushed. I was sick for two months with symptoms from a chronic condition and just got relief the day before her 30th birthday. last year I gave a nicer gift, but this year I did not have time and could not physically go out! last year I got her a nice purse and some other small stuff like a mug I think. this year, I got a plush toy with a $25 VISA giftcard.

For me personally it’s not the gift it’s truly the fact that someone cares enough to remember. One year my best friend couldn’t afford much, she just left her ex and was struggling. She bought me a tub of my favourite ice cream, she arranged for my eldest daughter to watch our kids and our husbands to hang out for a bit and  we watched movies. That was the best gift she ever gave me and it was $10. The amount or the gift means more when it comes from a good place

Personally, I think gift cards are great. I would be happy to receive any gift card! The plush toy I probably wouldn't have much use for. I would think it was cute and enjoy it for the day but it would go to donations eventually. I would take the money from the plush toy and just add it onto the gift card. But ultimately I would be appreciative and grateful of the gift. ￼

You could have done online shopping if you wanted to get her a nicer gift. However, i would be delighted at getting a mew plush toy and 25$ goft card. Im sure your cousin would feel the same way.

I think it's fine. But personally when I cant afford much, I skip gift cards/cash and do a more sentimental gift like cute costume earrings/necklace, a cute serving bowl, cute PJs (if you know her size/style), album or customized mug using her social media pics etc so it's still a nice gift but the amount spent is more obscure.

I have a scale I use for gifts. $25 for kids under 12 per kid that comes to the party. So if you invite all 2 of my kids you get 2 $25 gifts. Flat rates after parties stop. $50 for 13+ and $100 for milestones 10, 13, 16, 18, 20, 25 etc. $200 per person invited at a wedding. That’s what I find appropriate to give, not what I look to receive. So I would feel bad giving someone $25 for their 30th based on my own self imposed rules. I would not feel bad receiving $25 though. So you should probably let it go.
