And by free, I mean payed for by the government as part of the existing funding for victim services.

Yes, of course. It’s an imperative. 
Where I live almost all rape follow up services are covered regardless of circumstances like the person is insured or not. 
Everything is optional at the victims discretion. This can include: 
*The ER visit including the physical examination. 
*The rape kit. (This is for the purpose of gathering evidence, and separate from the physical exam.) 
*Emergency birth control (the morning after pill) 
*PEP (post exposure HIV medication) if applicable.  
*All STI testing including HIV. Including the follow up visit as STI’s don’t automatically appear in screening. 
*Follow up meds if necessary. 
*Pregnancy testing. Follow up referrals if additional services related to a pregnancy are needed. 
*A trained and licensed advocate/crisis counselor to stay during the entire ER visit, help navigate, and provide referrals. The patient can decline, but it’s a legal requirement this is offered. 
A second trained and licensed advocate to help with the legal process should that be necessary. 
 Follow up counseling services. 
I know it’s popular in some circles to refer to my home as a shithole etc. We do this right though. It’s what should be offered everywhere.

In case anyone is wondering, the reason I posted is that I read that the AG in Iowa is evaluating if paying for emergency contraception for rape victims is 'an appropriate use of public funds.'
I don't live in Iowa, but I've noticed a trend where something like this will pop up in one state, then a bunch of other states start following suit.  It's worrisome. The availability of comprehensive rape care shouldn't depend on whether you can afford it.  Please take this into consideration when you vote - no matter what your politics.

if it’s free for anyone, it should be them. Obviously I think everyone should have access to it, but the fact that they were sexually assaulted and obviously did not consent, they should especially be given it, no questions asked. Idk why this would be controversial to anyone.
