What does it mean when you have protein in your pee ?

I went to the doctor today and he said I had 3 counts or something of protein in my pee but the past couple of times I've went I have had protein in my pee but he told me today he's gonna call me if there's anything serious ... What could this possible mean ?????

Pre E. I had it with my first. I was induced at 37 weeks when my blood pressure spiked. If you are early, there are meds you can take. They will monitor you closely. My pre E didn't show up until much later so I was just monitored and induced when they became concerned
