As a labor nurse, if a provider is reaching for scissors and isn't saying anything, I'll ask the patient, the doctor wants to make a small cut to give baby more room, are you ok with that? 
Most I work with are great about getting consent, but sometimes they get focused during an emergency so I like to remind them they can't just go cutting on people. IDGAF if they get in their feelings about it 🤷‍♀️
Consent should be standard, always.

Guess it depends on policy. I signed a waiver at the beginning that included it. My doctor didn’t ask.

Usually you sign before birth accepting any possible means to get the baby safely out, when I had one with my first they said we need to do this now and get him out quick heart rates dropping- he was stuck with hand on face coming out and this allowed him out immediately. Healed just fine, no issues.

Typically they have you sign papers in the beginning that give consent to one if it becomes a necessity. I put in my birth plan that I would prefer to tear but consent to one if it is medically necessary for the health of baby

I don’t actually know the answer to this. I know my midwife said, I need to do this to get him out now and I remember just being like of course get him out safely. I don’t know if it was her actually asking or more so telling me.

I had one with my first and didn’t know until recovery when they handed me some prep H pads and said here put this in your panty liner it’ll help your incision heal less painful. I was like you mean I got cut down there and didn’t even know!? I truly never felt pain from it or the recovery & it was necessary to get my son out. They had already tried the suction cup on his head and forceps. Understandably I was a teen and 41-5wks size zero in clothes. I’m pretty sure I signed a waiver at some point but I had my son within 30 min of getting to the hospital so I don’t think I signed anything before hand in the hospital.

They Almost had to do 1 when i had my almost 1 month old but didnt tell me or ask they were prepping to do so then thankfully i was able to push him out before they had to but his cord was tightly around his neck and heart rate was extramly low so definitely was understandable in that kind of situation

Yes they have to have and you must just a verbal response… I was out of breath from pushing so I just nodded my head yes and doctor and nurses all said you need to say yes
