Does the AODA apply to private homes?

This is a long and complicated story, but essentially, my husband and I do not like his mom's dog. The dog is poorly behaved. She is constantly jumping on people, getting underfoot, and nips at people. She barks. She has accidents inside because she gets excited. She has bitten several people and we do not allow our children to visit her because of the dog's bite history. In short, the dog is not allowed in our home and we have made it clear that we will not visit my mother-in-law if the dog is in her house. She has refused to do anything about the dog. We haven't been to her house since the dog was about 6 months old (3 years ago).

She recently purchased a service dog vest and now takes the dog everywhere claiming that it's a medical alert dog and emotional support animal. This absolutely infuriates my husband and me. This dog can't even sit on command, much less perform any medical functions. It's a dangerous lie and we've told her to knock it off.

My mother-in-law showed up for dinner yesterday with the dog in tow. My husband said, "No. Absolutely not. You can pull this shit in public and with certain people but not with us. Your dog is not welcome in our home." She claims that the AODA prevents us from denying access due to the service dog. We said that the AODA does not apply in private homes in this particular scenario. We know the dog is neither a support animal nor a medical alert dog.

I'm so pissed off. Can she actually do anything about this though?
