Do you feel like you have to raise a family in a house?

I’ve never been a house person. I don’t like the idea of having to be responsible for the roofing and plumbing and yard maintenance and everything! I’m an apartment girl. I love high rise apartments in downtown areas. 
Does anyone have personal childhood experience being raised in an apartment or condo? Did you like or dislike it? I don’t want to rob my children of an experience, I think it would be nice to visit my sisters home rather than have a house to maintain myself. I was raised in a large home myself I was not raised in an apartment. Would love to hear others experiences being raised in an apartment or condo!
Side note, I loved the movie Eloise growing up. Little girl growing up in Manhattan penthouse.

My husband spent most of his childhood in apartments. He's had positive and negative things to say about it. Just like I have pros and cons for growing up in a house. I think theres pros and cons for renting and owning. But I'd rather own. Yes, you're responsible for everything, but the benefits of ownership outweigh the negatives for me personally. My issue with apartments/rentals is generally to do with the owners/landlords/whatever, because they most often don't care to make sure it's a well kept, safe place to live, they just want the rent money. I'd much rather have myself to blame for a leaky pipe not getting fixed than be totally dependent on someone else who doesn't give a damn to do it. I have had mostly negative experiences with renting as an adult, as have most of my friends.

My husband and i were in a condo until our baby was about 1 and now we're in a large townhouse. My biggest concerns with condo living was that i was always paranoid that we were disturbing our neighbors with her crying or screaming. The other issue i had was that there was no private outside space for her to play. Now, we have a small fenced in yard which is super easy to maintain but she has outside space where we have a baby pool and a sandbox.

I grew up in an apartment and I hated it. You couldn't make noise because of the neighbours, you hear everything all the time, you have to greet/ meet them when you leave your apartment, they will know everything about you...Now that I live in a house I love having my privacy and my garden, is like a dream I've never thought I will have.

I was raised in a large home. I own a large home with a large front and back yard. I had friends that lived in apartments and they didn’t really enjoy it. There wasn’t any yard space for them play in and they didn’t feel like they had privacy. They could heard arguments next door. 
We own vacation condos on the beach that we rent out year round and they are fully functional. People have to share the pool area and outdoor grill areas. No yards. 
I dislike apartments and condo living. It seems too cramped for me and privacy is limited. Plus, my mortgage is a fixed mortgage and cannot go up like rent can. I prefer to have my large home with lots of space, privacy, and nice yard areas for my child to play. I can paint my rooms any color and do anything to my home because it’s mine.

I think it depends on your lifestyle. Im a house person, but Im also a homebody. My best friend from highschool grew up in a house but is raising her son in D.C. in a small 2 bedroom owned apartment, but they have a different lifestyle than we do....theyre always out and about, traveling, many weekends theyre visiting his parents who have a big house in the suburbs etc, so for them, an apartment makes more sense because they basically sleep there during the week and thats mostly it. We work from home and homeschool 4 kids, so a house with a yard is more important to us even if it means being out in the boonies lol.

My husband was raised in apartments but they were always 1 bedrooms and he absolutely hated it. He is reserved so being around people constantly was scary and stressful for him. We currently have a 1 year old in a 2 bed townhouse but are trying to rent a house ASAP. Have you thought about renting a house? You’d have more room and privacy, it’d be less dangerous and you still wouldn’t be responsible for roof damage or other things out of your control like that.

Living in an apartment or complex is nice when there are a lot of other kids and a play area or something. If you're unsure maybe you can do a townhouse.

I have always had my children in a home vs an apartment and I love it because I can do whatever I want to my home. But I don’t see the problem with an apartment!
