Is it safe to go to the dentist while pregnant or should I wait until after birth?

I’am worried of the dental office making some kind of mistake in forgetting that I’am pregnant

Going to the dentist and getting most procedures done are safe. They likely won't do xrays until after birth unless absolutely necessary. Keeping up on dental health during pregnancy is very important and cleanings are highly recommend and safe. Pregnancy can do a number on teeth and gum health. I went to the dentist at 12 weeks and told them I was pregnant. They didn't do xrays but the cleaning was fine. I didn't need a letter or documentation from the ob either. I would assume depending on what you need done you may need a letter from your ob but they would let you know.

Generally, yes it is safe, you just need to let them know. I’ve never required any letters/documentation from my OB. I’ve always waited until second trimester though.

I had a root canal and crown done at 35 weeks. They just made sure to take breaks so I wasn’t flat on my back for too long at a time! Make sure they know you’re pregnant and ask them to take breaks if you’re getting something time consuming done!

They will likely require you to have a doctor’s note from your OB or midwife to even see you, so that will be in your file for everyone who works on you to see. But regardless, it is always good to be your own advocate and make sure you are double-shielded for any x-rays, make sure only lidocaine is used, etc. Speak up and ask questions about anything that makes you uncomfortable or you are unsure about.
