Is it common knowledge to not wear perfume around babies?

My MIL wore so much perfume that I had to bathe my 2-week-old three times to get the stench and chemicals off after she held him for a few minutes. Is it just me, or isn't it common knowledge to avoid wearing perfume around babies?

I have to bathe my child every time we see my MIL. Her perfumes and lotions wind up in his clothes, skin, hair. We now know to just go straight to the tub after any interaction with her. Mostly for my sake, because the smell makes me 🤮 Some people don’t notice or care though
