Is a rocking chair necessary for baby nursery?

Would a rocking chair provide any benefits to the mother and the newborn besides soothing them? When should one consider getting a rocking chair for their baby's room?

I think this is personal preference, I bought one second hand with my first and used it loads, I used it for night feeds and when he got older and was napping in his cot in the day I'd use it to feed then too. It's already in the nursery for this next one. Saying that thought I didn't get on with a nursing pillow and the chair gave me the support I needed.

I personally find rocking very soothing and it was the only thing that helped my colicky daughter to calm down some nights. I think it’s personal preference I know people who never had a rocker and people who swear they are the best thing. 
I have a recliner that rocks that’ll be my spot to breastfeed this little one and snuggle

My nephews sometimes only would sleep if they were being held, the rocking chair was a nice place to rest for momma or whoever was holding the baby at the time on top of ot soothing the baby.
