Would you work a job that you hated for one whole year to receive a $25000 sign on bonus?

Question

Would you work a job paying $42/hr with a $25k sign on bonus? You receive the first half of the sign on bonus after 6 months & the remainder at a year. There are no strings attached to the bonus. The only stipulation is working for that year. The hours are M-F 9-5 with no option for overtime. The position is in healthcare and it’s a role that has a high turnover rate. Would you take position knowing you would absolutely hate it?

From personal experience my happiness and health are not worth a shitty job. If your poor and have no other options then you don’t have much of a choice. however if you have other things in mind do that. I almost died last year due to to cancer and my biggest regret was staying at my toxic job that I hated. It destroyed me mentally and physically. It’s just not worth it in my opinion. Most people want money to get things to make them happy and comfortable but if you not happy and uncomfortable 40hours a week is it really worth it?

I'm a SAHM, but my husband would. It would be a lot better than his current position. He works erratic hours of 16 hour shifts. He has to leave at 3 am every morning, is on call on his days off, and puts his life in danger every single day. Having a set schedule of 9-5, not being in danger, and gets to see his kids? Sounds great.

Depends on how much I could use that money really. 
But in general I wouldn't work somewhere that I hate. Too stressful and life is too short. I have a husband and kids at home who would suffer for a year with me and thats a high price to pay imo.

If I were looking for work and came across this, I would. One year isnt that long really. I'd take it and.keep a positive attitude. Who knows, maybe it would turn out to be my favorite job ever.

Depends. In this stage of my life, (40’s) I’m financially good so I value happiness over money. If I was younger and needed the money I probably would take the job. Going in with a positive mindset and knowing I’d be taking mini vacations and working out each day to help my mental health.

Probably not. If I desperately needed money, maybe… but I’m not going to work a job I hate and be miserable just for some extra cash.

If I was desperate for that extra money I probably would.  But…if money is the motivator here then you need to be aware that the bonus will be taxed so the total will be more around $19k.  You may also want to figure out how that extra income will impact your taxes.
