Boyfriend is giving me the ick

My boyfriend and I have been dating for a little over 2 months but i’ve known him for much longer than that. So far he’s been perfect, treats me well, gets along with my family (for the most part), he’s a major jokester and hasn’t done anything weird until today.

Today I got a text from my male cousin who was furious at him and saying that he wanted to fight him. My cousin, K, has been known for his overreactions and outbursts, so i really didn’t pay any mind to it. He proceeded to send me screenshots of my boyfriend saying “tell my girl i’ll eat her butt” and following it up with “it’s just a joke”.

My cousin obviously gets heated and begins to threaten him with violence (fighting) and says “Nobody wants to know that”. He then tells almost everyone in my household on what my boyfriend did before coming to me about it. I know what he did was weird for it to be a “joke” but my caribbean family is harsh judgers and he will never be able to live this down.

Right now, I’m not speaking to either of them because honestly i don’t want to deal with this. I know this is small, but am I wrong for getting an ick from my boyfriends behavior? He never usually acts like this so i’m kinda torn.
