Husband doesn’t step up when I’m sick

This week I had a fever/cold. It’s taken up three days so far, and I feel that my husband is almost resentful of me being sick. I don’t know if that’s true, but I feel it. On the first day, I had some nasty cold chills and body aches. At this point he knew I was running a fever. He hasn’t really offered to do anything, so I make myself some canned soup. He comes up next to me and says “Don’t worry darling, you can have the whole can of soup. I don’t really want any.” I slowly turn my head to him glaringly and say “Yeah, I know. I planned on having the whole can.” That was literally my dinner. He seemed offended and mildly shocked. I’m not sure why he thought that was a helpful comment. Did he think he’d come off as generous for saying that? Later that night I asked him to take out the garbage. He was playing an online game with his friend all night. Next morning I notice the garbage was never emptied.

So nothing was ever offered to me when I was sick. Not even the simple requests I made were done. No cleaning was initiated by him. The next day I cleaned the kitchen and even threw a pizza in the oven for him. Again, I made my own dinner. So I’m just wondering if this is the kind of guy I should ever have kids with, because it could quite literally be the end of me. That sounds dramatic, but who’s going to take care of me other than myself? I’m fine with taking care of myself, but I’d rather do it alone knowing I don’t have a husband who just sits playing video games knowing his wife is in the next room making her sick dinner AND his dinner.

I just miss the way my own family took care of me. I always felt cared for, and this is such a stark contrast. I get it sometimes comes down to communication, but I’ve always known how to treat a sick family member. Sometimes I think it just comes down to the way his mom did everything for him, and I’m not here to undo or fix that. That’s not a job I signed up for.

Thanks for reading my rant! 🙃
