Filing for bankruptcy

I have posted my son's cancer journey on here for a couple years. He's 17 now and completely cancer free. His hair has grown back and He's regained most of his control over his bowel and bladder back. He has issues with that in his sleep but for the most part he's back to being the teenage boy we know and love. I remember him wanting to give up and have us just let him die. I'm so happy he didn't give up. However we are in severe debt. Between medical bills and taking out loans and credit cards to pay off stuff insurance wouldn't pay for we are pretty my gonna be stuck in debt forever. With the loans, credit card bills, and medical bills. It all adds up to over 1 million dollars. I didn't even know medical bills could get that high. I don't regret this at all. I want my son alive. But at this point I think bankruptcy is the only way to go. My husband is so uneasy about it. Has anyone ever filed before and can you share your experience with me?
