How far along am I when I get Missed period?

If I take a pregnancy test on the first day of my missed period and it’s positive.. how far along does that make me? On google it says more than 3 weeks along because they count weeks of pregnancy by your last period. The first day of your last period marks the first week of your pregnancy. But that makes no sense to me lol. How does that even make sense

It’s because your last period started a new cycle, which is when you release an egg that was fertilized and it keeps things simple because you can’t really pin point when implantation occurred since it happens within a 6-12 day window.

The first day of your last period is used as a rough estimate until you are able to have your first ultrasound confirming gestational age. It makes perfect sense.

Because you can ovulate and implant any time between your period and your first positive pregnancy test. that means your egg could have implanted three days ago or three weeks ago, and this means what you could see on an ultrasound varies greatly. Your LMP is used as a general guide until your first ultrasound at around 6-8 weeks (from your LMP). This pretty much guarantees you’ll be able to see SOMETHING (a yolk sac, gestational sac, fetal pole, fetal heart activity, etc) and they’ll give you an accurate gestational age based off of that. Even a few days in between an ultrasound can make a HUGE difference

I’d guesstimate about 4 weeks but it’d be best to consult with your doctor. You could have ovulated later and be not that far along or further along than you think.
