What is with all the downvotes?

I haven’t been on here in a while but I’m seeing so many posts with multiple downvotes. The posts are within guidelines and not particularly controversial. Just normal posts seeking advice or an extra set of eyes. What’s the point exactly? Will the algorithm show you less posts with similar content? Why all the downvotes instead of scrolling on?

I personally don’t like the downvote feature because I feel like people abuse it, and in most cases, there’s a dickhead behind it on some power trip, thinking no one knows it’s me, and they want to hurt or get a rise out of the OP. Some people may choose to upvote or downvote rather than comment, which I get, but sometimes the meaning behind it isn’t very clear. You have 3 downvotes on this post, which doesn’t make sense to me. Not sure how this post warrants any downvotes because you’re just making an inquiry about the feature. I’ve never accidentally downvoted a post, so I don’t think most of them are done by accident, not to say some of them aren’t! From what I’ve gathered, a downvote cancels out an upvote, and vise versa!

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I saw the most innocent post yesterday where someone was asking advice on how to track their cycle and it had 5 downvotes… like, why?

I was wondering the same thing. Ive posted a couple times just about pregnancy in general looking for advice or someone thats had the same experience and have gotten multiple downvotes. Its just ignorant people behind a screen with nothing better to do with their time because personally ive never accidentally been scrolling with my left hand and downvoted anyones post... lol

For the pregnancy test questions, I feel like a lot of women just thumbs down the post if they think it’s negative, as opposed to commenting. A lot women get offended if they see a simple “negative”, so to avoid all the back and forth, they just downvote it I think.

If you thumbs up a post, it “neutralizes” the thumbs down count but its 1:1

People use it as a thumbs down but don’t realize  what it’s actually meant for . It’s also confusing when people use it . I posted about an issue I’m having and got downvotes which I’m not really sure what for . I don’t like the button.
