Gender disappointment
My partner and I found out the gender of our baby recently and whilst he’d expressed huge excitement at the idea of a boy we had also discussed girls names, etc. He was fully aware it was a 50/50 chances of course.
After the sonographer announced that it was a girl he explicitly said how disappointed he was. Then proceeded to storm out of the clinic and it escalated from there… He told me he didn’t want a baby anymore, that he only wanted one if it was a boy, that his life has now been ruined, that he wants to end things with me so he doesn’t have to be part of this anymore, even that he wants to end his own life because of the news.
He’s got ADHD and has had difficulties managing his emotions before but this explosion of negativity has made me so so angry, upset and resentful. I have remained rational and let him know that gender disappointment is ok and normal BUT the way he’s expressing his other thoughts are way too much for me. It feels unbelievable that someone who loves me can react this way and my day of what should be totally lovely and amazing has been ruined.
