Would you ask your husband to quit his job if you can afford it

My husband just had his second surgery on his back after an accident he was involved in. He's supposed to have been taking it easy but his job has not been accommodating at all. My husband asked if he could switch to desk work for a few months so his back could heal but his boss said no and he can look for another job if he can't do his. We are at an at will state and his boss just threatens to fire him. He almost didn't allow my husband to use take off for his surgery. My husband had a doctor's appointment and his doctor said if he doesn't start taking it easy he's gonna damage his back/spine more and it may be irreversible damage. He came home from work today and laid on the bed in a ball shaking in pain. He doesn't cry but I could tell he was trying not to cry and was asking me to get him ibuprofen. I'm scared for him and was thinking about just asking him to quit that job. Completely heal up and then find a better more accomodating one. We don't make a lot of money but if we cut down on a few luxuries we could survive on my paycheck.
