I told the nicu if I didn’t produced enough by the time she comes home I will supplement . But why are they transitioning off donor milk ? Is this legal for them to do ? She’s 40 weeks weight is good , feeding and pooping well she’s just receiving antibiotics and they won’t discharge her until she’s done

Where I am as soon as you are home yes they have no obligation to keep providing donor milk. You could buy milk from the milk bank butbit is *VERY* expensive. Again could just be where I am but there us no way they could provide donor milk to every discharged patient as a lot if areas have issues getting enough donor milk or have legit shortages. I'd talk to them and if you can afford it obviously you can probably buy milk but I'd guess they are transitioning to formula as thats what they assume you will have to supplement with at home. When I had my 1st baby I had to supplement for a few weeks. We used formula because to buy milk after we left the hospital it was about $5.50 an ounce for milk.

Kinda confused by the moms saying just say nope. When op posted this baby was being discharged 2 days later. Why wouldn't you want the transition to be in the hospital where they can make sure baby takes formula ok instead of being cut off donor milk and having to introduce formula at home. If she isn't producing enough they aren't gonna keep giving her free donor milk after discharge. They transition babies iver a few days as its less of a system shock and less likely to have tummy issues. She will be breastfeeding but any supplemental needs will be formula until there is not a need to supplement. But the second those papers are signed donor milk goes away so not sure what she really would be saying no to. They are doing it the safe way to prepare for home

This is how I read the message: Yay baby will be home in 48 hours. Donor milk is harder to access , so pump and bring milk if you feel strongly about formula.

My dr wouldn’t give my baby formula in the NICU unless I signed off on it so I had chosen donor milk then decided to transition before going home and they made me sign a new form. Definitely advocate if that isn’t what you want!

I think you can say no to anything you want. This is where you have to advocate for your baby and your desires
