is it wrong to want to have sex

i’m a 17y/o virgin and lately i’ve been feeling good and confident in myself and body and i believe im ready to have sex but i don’t want to do it with just anyone. there’s this boy i used to have a thing with but it never progressed into a relationship and he’s the only one i’d even consider doing it with because i’ve known him for a while. is it wrong to want to have sex and not have someone to do it with. i don’t want to make the mistake of having sex with the next person that comes my way and that it’ll feel totally wrong. i’m confused on how i should go about this should i go for someone im more comfortable with but not dating or wait until the right person comes even though im ready now.
