I had an exploratory laparoscopic surgery + a hysteroscopy + D&C + cervical check & the IUD inserted on the 26th of June. I found out on the surgery report that when inserting my IUD, they failed and it deployed into my cervix/lower uterus, so they removed it and inserted another.

1 week after the procedure the bleeding stopped, but I was still getting weird “twingey” cramps, I assumed this was the IUD “settling”. 2 weeks after the procedure I checked the string myself and it was exactly how you’d expect, felt about 1-2cm long, could only just reach it with the tip of my finger. With everything settled, my partner and I became sexually active again.

But in the last 3-4 days, I’ve started getting clots (not bleeding, just many, many clots) and horrible cramps. I felt for the IUD strings and they’re now positioned so low, I can feel about 4cm worth of the string but my cervix still feels normal (no part of the IUD is protruding out, cervix isn’t abnormally low, there’s just more of the string out than there was at the 2-week mark).

The hospital haven’t booked my follow up for another 4 weeks and even then, they’ve booked it as a phone appointment. I’ve never had the IUD so I’m not sure what is and isn’t normal. Should I be worried or is this pretty typical for this soon after getting it put in?
