Midwives can’t preform a cesarean in the event of an emergency. But a midwife is absolutely qualified to deliver a baby vaginally and to preform prenatal and postpartum care for mom and baby.

What Rachel said. The only thing a certified nurse midwife can’t do is a C-section.

Agree with everyone so far. An OB can do surgery on the fly if there’s an emergency. Midwife can’t do that. I’ve had so many moments when things went south in birth that I personally would never feel comfortable with a midwife.
