Please tell me I’m not being over dramatic and that it’s fucking weird that my mother in law swears up and down that my husband was her husband in a past life. She said this out of nowhere during a family outing with our children. My husband and I have talked and he said it makes him uncomfortable when she makes comments like that (bc this wasn’t the first time.) and it makes me feel like she’s trying to compete with me or something as if he isn’t her literal son. I just don’t know if we should keep ignoring this or say something to her. In the past she has said that she knows he must be big bc his dad was, has said she would date him if he weren’t her son bc he’s her type, and has talked about how she’s dated guys who look and dress like him before. We’ve tried saying something in the past about how these comments aren’t appropriate and she just laughs it off as a joke but as a mother myself I wouldn’t “joke” with my kids like that and I wouldn’t want my children to think it’s okay either.
