Contractions?? 38.5 weeks

What did your contractions feel like? I lost my mucus plug this morning and have been having really bad period cramps since last night that come and go and make my legs tingle/dull lower back pain. Not sure if its contractions because I was told you feel those from the top of your uterus to the bottom but I only feel them at the bottom. Waiting for my water to break or the cramps to become more consistent. Last checked on tuesday and I was 2cm dilated cervix soft and open.
