Toddlers with Hearing Aids?
Last week my 4 year old advised me to ‘speak into his listening ear’ so I took him to the doctor to determine why he has a listening ear.
He failed his hearing test on the one side. So the week we went to the ENT who confirmed he has >60% hearing loss in that ear, likely caused by a congenital bone issue (to be confirmed next week by a CT scan).
He mentioned a hearing aid was likely, potentially a surgically placed one, and exploratory surgery further down the line to correct whatever we have going on.
I didn’t want to put the cart before the horse until all tests were completed and we see for sure what’s going on, but I can’t imagine this kid tolerating a hearing aid.
Anyone out there caring for their kids hearing aids? What should I expect here? What questions should I be asking? What kind of cost should I expect?
I’m so sad he has a bad ear, but also so proud of him for having the ability to identify and communicate that there was a problem so we can fix it.
Any thoughts appreciated.
