Creeped out

I was at a pizza place picking up pizza with my 10 year old daughter. We are sitting together waiting and a man comes in, picks up his pizza and then says to my daughter in a weird creepy baby voice, "Do you like dogs? I've got one in my truck." I immediately stood in front of her, looked him dead in the eye and firmly said, "No!". He said, "I'm not going to do anything." I again said, "NO!" And he left mumbling something under his breath. Am I wrong for thinking that a grown man should NEVER approach a child saying something like this? It felt predatory to me.
