Do you send money to your parents?

Question

Do you send money to your parents monthly? If you do, how much do you send? I send £400 monthly to my mother to support her with her bills or other expenses but she feels that’s too small? For reference I am married with children.

Nope. Both my parents work and know how to financially prepare for retirement. They know how to live within their means. 
We also absolutely could not financially send anything as we don’t make enough for an extra expense like that. 
I would be offended if I was giving my parents something and they weren’t grateful and asked for more.

I understand there are many cultures that this is considered the norm. But to answer your question, no, my parents are financially independent, as am I. We don’t rely on each other to fund lifestyles. They fund their’s and I fund mine. If you have children, a home, and general life responsibilities, I’d consider your mother extremely inconsiderate to consider your charity to her “too little.” You don’t technically “owe” her anything (assuming you haven’t borrowed money from her or anything like that). So saying you should give her more when you give her anything at all is quite selfish and inconsiderate.

No I do not support my parents it is still the other way around. They take the children to a nice place for the day (parents in law), buy a dress for me (my mother) or support financially for the children’s future (my father). Both my parents are quitte young (59 and 63) and work 4 days a week. This is different for my parents in law. The mother was a stay at home mom (now 66) and the dad has retired 2 years ago (65).
It of course really depends on the financial situation of both of you and your cultural background on what is normal. Cannot judge on that.

Hell no. They aren’t entitled to my money and I owe them nothing. My mother is in a psychiatric nursing home. Her insurance pays for it and her money buys her what she wants. My father is retired and financially independent. I would never send them money or pay their bills.

Never have. If my mom reached out and said she needed something, I’d probably help her once or twice. If my dead reached out, I’d say sucks to suck 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’d never set up a recurring monthly payment to my parents. She’s a grown adult, it’s not my responsibility to take care of her

Absolutely not. My parents are financially independent, always have been. My husbands parents however needed assistance quite a bit when he was growing up. He started working when he was 14 & dropped out of high school in 10th grade to help support his parents.

I do. My mother lives with me. I make sure she has everything she needs. And my dad holds my mortgage I pay him what I owe plus interest.
