I hate the US healthcare system
I’ve been having severe abdominal pains for three months as well as not being able to keep any food down, migraines every day and feeling like I’m going to pass out. Doctor’s on vacation, can’t get in to see anyone else because they’re booked for through mid November, tried calling at 8am every day for the past 3 weeks for a same day appointment and no luck. I went to our only er nearby which is useless and was told it’s likely just reflux or stomach flu, didn’t do any tests. Went to urgent care they couldn’t do much but test my pee which was normal and my blood pressure was a bit high but not crazy, 144/96. Blood pressure was high at the dentist yesterday, 152/102. I’ve been using my electronic cuff daily and it’s been high for a week. Cuff broke yesterday so husband picked up a new one today. My readings are insane. 192/112, 186/108, 188/106. I feel like shit but this is crazy. My husband tested it and his was normal. I called the doctor to see if they could just check my blood pressure for me to see if this cuff is accurate because it’s so high and the nurse tells me that’s unbelievably high, there’s no way it could possibly be that because my last appointment A MONTH AGO reading was only 134/82 so I must be using a cuff too small or not wearing it right. I can’t have my blood pressure taken without an appointment, they can get me in November third.
HOPE I DONT ACTUALLY HAVE HYPERTENSIVE CRISIS AND DIE!
My arm is 15” around, it’s an xl cuff that fits 13”-18” so it’s not too small. I graduated from the medical assistant program, I know how to use a blood pressure cuff and do a manual blood pressure ffs. I wanted a manual cuff but there weren’t any xl in stock.
I hate living in this shitty rural craptown with nothing here and a 2 star rated hospital. I’m gonna drive the 2 hours to the next closest hospital istg.
I’ll edit here instead of responding individually because I’m just too exhausted. I drove to the next hospital a few hours away after I almost passed out in my husband’s arms. I didn’t remember about 10 minutes of time after that. I have never cried in a doctors office before but I did last night. I could hardly stand when we arrived at the er, I wanted to just curl up on the floor in pain. Triage nurse said it sounded like my gallbladder. Nurse in the room said it sounded like my gallbladder. She gently pressed on my abdomen under my ribs and it was so painful. Doctor came in and essentially said that they can’t do anything because they don’t have someone available for CT MRI or ultrasound at night unless it’s for a major emergency like a car accident. He told me I could use an MRI, HIDA scan and an endoscopy but that’s going to be and should be outpatient. My blood pressure was “only” 160/100 and he said despite the fact that I eat less than 1000 calories a day since I’m having a bowel movement a day, I’m getting enough food. After that he gave me information on acute nausea and vomiting and sent me home. We were there for about 30 minutes total. Dude didn’t even offer me a Tylenol. I am drinking a lot of water, it’s the only thing I can manage besides toast and crackers. Even plain chicken is making me throw up now. I managed to get an appointment someone else cancelled for today so hopefully someone will actually help me.
