Hairstylist, coloring damaged hair

I got my hair done last year in August and damaged it. It started breaking off it was bad then in December I got hair extensions got them off in late January and a lot of my hair fell out with it. My question is I haven’t dyed my hair in over a year and greys are starting to appear more and more. Do you think it’s a good idea to dye it? I just want a solid simple brown. Is it safe to dye my hair or should I not? It’s still breaking a little not as much. Can I get your feed backs. Thank you
