I am going to rip my hair out!

My child NEEDS behavioral therapy. We want to put him in ABA. His behaviors are causing trouble at school (yes he has an IEP.)

“We only provide behavioral therapy to adults”

“We can get you in, but we don’t accept your insurance so you’ll have to pay out of pocket”

“You need a medical diagnosis to be eligible for ABA” per the only two ABA centers within 4 hours of me

“Our waitlist at UofM is 3 years”

“We don’t do ASD/ADHD evaluations until the child is 6”

HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO GET HIM THE HELP HE NEEDS IF I CANT FUCKING DO ANYTHING BUT SIT AND WAIT

He’s 5. Yes he has a BIP. He’s already been suspended twice for a total of 6 days. We just had an IEP meeting and thought we had some good plans. We got a call today that he’s just now started saying he’s going to “kill people” which I have NO clue where that comes from because he doesn’t play video games and all screen time is monitored. We don’t speak like that. His principal is not understanding of how young children behave, let alone a neurodivergent child. We’ve been trying to get him medically diagnosed but waitlists and stupid age guidelines are smacking us in the face. Is 6 a magic age or something? I think we’re going to try seeing if he can see a psychiatrist to figure out what this whole killing this is. What’s CBT?

Edit again: found a social worker/behavioral therapist that does CBT that will see him at our local clinic. Insurance won’t cover it but we will make it work. Thanks for the suggestion!
