Take my baby to the ER??

Hi all. My son just turned 4 months old. He’s my first, so I’m still learning. He’s been pretty fussy today and not napping very well. It’s very unusual for him. He had a good normal poop this morning, but then he had 2 poops like this. Is this normal or do I need to take him to the ER? His doctors office is closed till the 2nd.

I would not go to the ER over poop unless it’s bloody. Keep hydrating to make sure they’re still having regular diapers and don’t get dehydrated. But that’s not an emergency.

No, you do not need to go to the ER. This is not an emergency and likely nothing to worry about. At 4 months, most babies go through a huge leap (look up wonder weeks if you haven't, I found it helped a lot.) Baby could be beginning to teeth, which would also explain the fussiness and icky diapers. As long as baby is eating, having enough wet diapers, is alert and doesn't have a fever, I don't think it's anything that can't wait until Thursday. I know its hard not worry, especially when you're a first mom, but I really think your little one is probably fine. Just keep an eye on them and give some extra snuggles. If you really get nervous about it, even if your doctor is closed, you should be able to call an after hours nurse line or your local hospital to ask if they think baby needs to be seen. It'll be okay, mama!
