Would you think he’s lying?

Me & my boyfriend have been together over a year now. We stopped using condoms when I got on birth control a couple months ago, I wanna guess 3 months back. Last night, I got into his car & seen a condom and asked why he had one if we don’t use them. He tells me “its from when we used to use them, it was a 3 pack and there was 1 left over that I never threw out”. Which makes sense but I’ve been in his car countless times and never noticed it which he then tells me “you don’t pay attention or use the center console”. Again, true. But why would he have it instead of getting rid of it? Would you think he’s lying?
