D&C awake?

Question

Has anyone ever had to do this while awake? 😟 what was the experience like? I’m so scared… I don’t think my clinic puts you to sleep. Only laughing gas & local anesthetic 😭

I’ll just start by saying this is my personal experience and i won’t discredit anyone else’s as i’m sure this is a different experience for everybody!
I had mine done while awake, I was given pain meds and meds to calm me down through an IV. My body felt very relaxed, i felt a little drowsy and a little out of it, overall i was very comfortable. I had a great team of nurses that comforted me and created small talk during the procedure which was a great distraction. I really only felt a bit of pressure but nothing crazy, i was honestly surprised. It was also a pretty quick procedure as well. 
I do believe i had to stay in recovery for half an hour before i was able to leave and go home. At this point i still felt pretty good. I had some cramping but it was really minor. I had a friend bring me to the store soon as i got discharged just so i could grab some after care stuff/self care stuff, at this point it’s probably been about an hour/hour and a half since i had the procedure done and this is when i had some really intense cramping set in. It progressively got worse, it was easily the worst cramping/pain i have ever felt but it still wasn’t totally unbearable. I called the clinic and they said it was just my uterus contracting and that it was normal. It did eventually subside after an hour or two. I just used a heating pad and paced around my apartment till the pain subsided enough that i could just sleep it off. Only reason i’m even really mentioning this is i hadn’t anticipated it, i really wish i had planned ahead a bit more and got the things i needed/would possibly need before hand. (pads for bleeding, heating pad for cramps, snacks and gatorade). I spent so much time focusing on how it would feel during the actual procedure as that’s what i was more nervous about that i never really put any thought into how i would feel afterwards or if i would feel anything at all. So i was very shocked by the amount of pain i was in after the fact. Overall it still wasn’t horrible. Do i want to go through that pain again? no but it was manageable. 
As for mentally, it was hard but i was and still am very confident in the decision i made and that it was for the best. I do have hard days every now and then but again, i do feel the decision i made was best and only you can decide those things. The clinic i went too offered counselling sessions, they also asked would i like to discuss other options or just have an overall chat before they got started to make sure this was 100% what i wanted to do but i opted out as i was positive i needed to do this. If you are nervous or feeling unsure, anything, if they offer any sort of counselling before or even after, if you feel you need it, take it!

I had one awake they gave me iv pain and anxietymeds which make you kinda sleepy like drunk feeling. I still felt the local numbing to my cervix which felt like a dental needle if that makes sense. I felt pressure and some discomfort. But what they dont tell you is the hormon dip and the depression you get after its over so please make sure.you really wanna do this. I thought i did..
