Beauty in everything

At home visiting my parents with my family. 5 yrs ago this area of my home state burned down and with it some of my parents homestead. It was a quick and superbly destructive fire and took what was a green oasis to charred sticks. While families still fight with insurance companies or people just put up for sale signs and walked away the forest has waited. This past summer we saw wild flowers again and some new life in the black trees. I am sad my kids will never know the beauty I was privileged to grow up in but glad to have them see what resilience and rebuilding look like. On days like today it makes me smile that while it will never be as beautiful to the eye as it was it will always be beautiful and in some ways more so because she fought and is coming back. With the protection of snow hugging the ground that burnt I can see the next bout of growth and renewal that will appear in a few months.
