Advice please? North Carolina

Question

Does anyone live or knows anything about how North Carolina is? Is it a more affordable state? Good state for families and raising young kids? Is it more racially diverse? Im white and my husband is black. We have 3 children and I worry if North Carolina is one of the more racist states?
Can anyone tell me anything they know.
We're thinking of moving.

Hasn't been super recent but we lived there for 3ish yrs...husband was stationed there. I hated it. For me the area we lived in was not the most welcoming. I am a black baptist woman and my husband is an Iraqi american who is Muslim. We were fine on or near the base bur out and about it wasnt always easy. I found the schools meh about of course that could have been the district. Wasn't a huge fan of the district and how they handled the kids. The weather didnt bother us as me and my husband were both military and have lived in all sorts of climates but my kids HATED the summers. It was cheaper than where we live now and other places we lived but like any state there are cheaper parts and more expensive parts. I will say every single member of our family said never again the day we moved. It I am sure has changed at that was a decade ago but besides a decent cost for housing I didn't find much we liked. My kids were not sad to leave at all either. I'd visit and see a few areas as the differ but ya I wont be moving back...ever for any reason lol

I'm black and Puerto Rican and lived in Charlotte 10 years ago and loved it. Considering moving back when my lease is up in June. My aunt has lived there since her daughter was about 1 or 2 and just turned 18 last month. My experience was great back then but not sure how it would be now. My aunt hasn't had any issues that I know of. When I lived there people were super friendly and said hi to you as you walked past each other. For me personally, I was the happiest back then, than I ever was living there and if things didn't get so bad between my aunt and I would have stayed there even living there til this day. I have colleagues who moved to Charlotte right after college and they are living their best lives. Having great experiences and meeting new people. They're black as well. 
Ashville is a nice place to live as well. I know quite a few people who live there as well and are black, have biracial children or are biracial themselves and haven't had issues there either. As far as the cost of living I'm not sure. My aunt is moving to a new place as she is downsizing. She had to move a little further out from the city. It's about 15 mins out vs 5 mins but it was what she could afford. Like the other commenter said, it all depends on where you live. The city of course is going to be a little more expensive and of course some suburbs will be but also may be cheaper than living in a major city

Had a 10 month work contract there. Was soooo happy when i got moved a month early. Hated the weather..not a humidity girl by any means. I didnt live in a downtown or larger pop area and I had to have a car to go anywhere. No real oublic transit in some areas and biking/walking is a no in many places. Can't speak ton person racism as I am.a skinny white gurl married to a muscly white football player but did see it in places. Usually behind peoples back...like other white people talking about someone to me thinking I agreed. Was also just boring haha. Not very much to do in a lot of areas and while there are beyond beautiful places not the bes for what I like outdoors wise. Cheaper living but lower wages so evens out. Awful schools in my opinion bur if you were in a wealthy area probably better. And sounds minor but THE MOSQUITOES!! God god almighty those blood sucking sons of bitches were so much worse than any other state I've lived in. Fireflies are cool though. The people seemed fake nice so that was not my favorite either. But ya I wouldn't move back myself. Besodes Oklahoma least favorite places I've lived or visited...and I have been all over....NC was my least favorite by far.
