My mom purposely let my dog out

So I’m staying with my mom for a little while my husband and I are in the process of getting our house tented for termites. My mom’s backyard is not fenced and it leads straight to a very busy road. We just got here 2 days ago and she doesn’t have any dogs or pets of any kind and we have 1 dog so I told her to please not keep any backyard doors open and just to make sure to close the door behind her and she’s like oh sure of course no problem!

Last night my husband and I went out for dinner. Before we left I told my mom that I fed my dog and that she didn’t have to do anything and to please do not leave the doors open just as another friendly reminder. She said yes of course and we left. About an hour later we came back home and she’s sitting on the couch, the backyard door is wide open, and I’m like?? Hello where is my dog?? And she’s like oh he wanted to go outside I think he went pee. I went outside and I couldn’t find him. My husband and I search for 3 hours and we got SOOO lucky and we found him about 5 blocks away. My mom never bothered to even pretend like she cared or came searching with us. I have no idea how long he was out before we got home because when I asked her she just kept saying,”I didn’t mean to”.

Soo she didn’t mean to leave the door wide open when that was the only thing I asked her not to do multiple times?? And she NEVER apologized. The only thing she ever said was “I didn’t mean to”. If that was me I would be apologizing profusely and crying even if it wasn’t my dog!

It’s the next morning now and she is pretending like nothing happened.

I tried to have a conversation with her and I told her, I had to have some time to be angry about the situation and that I was mainly angry because she didn’t apologize. She then got mad and AGAIN said “I didn’t mean to”

I cannot take this level of disrespect when we were only going to be here for 1 week while our house is getting tented. I vented about it to my brother last night and he told me to just forgive and forget because she’s family and family is the most important thing. Okay I get that but like.. she fucked up and all I wanted was an apology!! I could have lost my dog forever!!

My husband and I left and we booked a hotel room for the week. We were originally going to do that anyways but when I was telling my mom about having to get our house tented she basically begged us to stay at her house since she’s so close.

I should have just gotten the hotel room in the first place.
