My best friend is getting married and I know she's going to ask me to be a bridesmaid, or even maid of honor, but I really don't want to. BUT HOLD UP, before you start screaming at me that it's her day and I should suck it up, here are my reasons why:

1. I have severe social anxiety. Even with meds, trips to the mall can make me freeze, shake, cry, or become ill so being on stage at a massive wedding is physically and mentally difficult. Plus I'd hate to cause a scene.

2. I've been unemployed for over a year. That means I can't afford parties, gifts, trips or outfits. Hell I can't afford McDonald's.

3. This is her second engagement in less than a year, which has caused a significant amount of drama between the families, both of which are HUGE and VOCAL. I'd rather stay out of it.

4. She has unreasonable expectations like already asking friends to join her in losing 30lbs for the big day.

5. I just don't do weddings. They're stressful, and awkward, and expensive, and overrated. I've never dreamed of being in one, or even having one myself. I'd rather elope (without a wedding party so there goes that argument of her returning the favor)

So, how do I talk to her? I want her to know I support her 100%, but just can't handle it.
