Heavy cycle postpartum

I am 11 months postpartum and just got my 2nd period. It is so heavy I spent most of the afternoon getting worked up in the ER. I’m bleeding through overnight maxi pads, my pants, bled all over my sheets. Every time I move I can feel it trickling out like I’m peeing myself. Occasionally it gushes out. I have a history of heavy irregular periods but this is beyond anything Ive ever experienced .

If your period came back heavy, did it stay that way? My first cycle was pretty normal, just lasted a little longer than typical. This one totally blindsided me.
