Heartbroken

So the guy I have been sorta seeing told me lastnight that he doesn't want to get attached to someone with a kid again (he was engaged to a girl with two kids and they broke up). I wasn't sure how to take it and I came home and realized that he might have been telling me that he doesn't want anything serious. Being me, I didn't speak my mind right away and just said that I'm okay with taking things slow and being good friends. Now I'm not sure if I should waste my time and risk falling more for him and just end up being heart broken. I hate this.
