Can I ask my midwife (at 8 weeks) for a scan as I am scared of having a missed miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy?

I really want to call up and ask. Would I call my surgery/clinic to ask to book the scan with the midwife or would the midwife book it after I see her at 8 weeks?

I wouldn't for the sake of going crazy, which is opposite of what you're posting about. Here's why though, let's say you go in and get a scan at 8 weeks and you're just elated. What happens if you miscarry a week later? The ultrasound just gave you false hope. Women who post on here saying that after you see the heartbeat the statistics if miscarriage decrease is extremely misleading. The chances of miscarriage decrease at 12 weeks after you've seen/heard the heartbeat. I would try your hardest to relax and stay positive. If this is your first you're going to go through your while pregnancy with these fears. Once you hit 15-20 weeks and you start to feel the baby move, if one day you don't feel movement you'll freak. You can't run and get an ultrasound every time you think something might be wrong. Pick up a past time to take your mind off of it. Go for walks, read a book, make a scrapbook for your pregnancy. Just relax.

You can ring up your early pregnancy unit  (mines burnley) and you can book an early scan directly with them if you tell them your really worried, mine are really helpful we have our scan next week good luck x
