When to go to the hospital

Question

I'm a FTM so I'm learning new things everyday. I have a question.. When is it best to head to the hospital. Soon after the water breaks? Or once contractions become closer (4-1-1 rule)    I know sometimes people say they will labor for a while at home before going but what situations do I need to go immediately or just hang out. Thanks!

Once your water break and you arrive at the hospital they put you on the clock. if you and baby are healthy mean you are negative for group b Strep I would stay home, otherwise they give you 24 hours after you water breaks before they try and induce you if you don't make progress, they do this because they can't keep you there too long. You can safely wait 48 hours after your water break , but if contractions are consistent after water breaks and 4.1.1 then you go in. This information is coming from an ob nurse.

When your water breaks. Because your baby has now lost the fluid that was protecting it. However if you are having contractions prior to that are 1 min long every 5 mins for an hour and they intensify in pain each time then go to the hospital.  As in if you have these contractions before water breaking go in. But if your water breaks before these contractions definitely go in.

If u are strep b positive they usually want u there within an hour of it breaking so they can start antibiotics... It increases ur sand baby's risk for infection.

Usually if your water breaks you have to go sooner than later to avoid infection.

Otherwise, depending how far away your hospital is, you would go when your contractions are 3-5 mins apart.

My doc told me when contractions ate 5-6 minutes apart for at least 45 minutes and last about a minute each do basically a 4-1-1 rule but bcuz the hospital is further out from us he wants me to leave a little earlier lol. He said if we call before then all theyll do is tell me to wait until the above happens.

My ob told me Tuesday that if my water breaks and my contractions aren't that close , that I have at least 4 to 6 house before I need to go to the hospital. Unless they say otherwise

Do you have a nurse online you can call? They will help you through it.

You don't need to go in right away when your water breaks...unless it is green which is muconium. Call your doctor when your water breaks to let them know but you can still stay home until contractions are 5-1-1. Don't want to go in too early just to be sent home.

My doc told me once contractions are 7 mins apart and they are so strong that you cannot talk through them.
