First cervical screening/Pap smear!

Jannet
I recently had my first cervical screening which includes a Pap smear. Did you know that you're supposed to have it after you begin having any kind of sex?! That's what I've learned from my gynecologist anyways. I'm currently awaiting for my results which takes about 2-3 weeks. How were your experiences if you have been? If you haven't had it yet, it's a great time to get familiar with the procedure! 😁 (it makes it less scary)
For me, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I've always been told by friends that it's really scary but my gynecologist was very quick! They have you sit like you're giving birth. My gynecologist first checked me for breast cancer which means she presses against the breasts and surrounding tissues to feel for abnormal lumps.
She starts the actual Pap smear by applying a water based lube to my Netherlands. Because I've had sex, she used a normal size speculum (metal beak looking tool that opens up your vagina to reach the cervix about the size of an average penis. They have different sizes for virgins and moms). She then lightly takes a small sample from my cervix with a small but long brush and seals it in a water based container for testing. Lastly, she does a quick feel inside the lining of my vagina against my tummy to make sure there's no lumps growing inside.
The actual procedure didn't last more than a couple of minutes. I spent more time talking to her first before the actual test! (She explained exactly what she needed to do which was very comforting.)
If you are due for a Pap smear, this is reminder to see your gynecologist! Take initiative towards your wellbeing and get tested (for everything)! ⭐️
