This new poll is making me sick. How do people rationalize this creationism belief and think it's okay to throw away decades of research and findings?

I completely agree. People are so emotionally and socially intertwined with their religion and their beliefs that no amount of evidence, even if it was laid out perfectly and staring right back at them, could change their minds. This is the hold religion has on people. This is why it has survived for thousands of years.

When a way of thinking shapes your entire existence from the time you are small child and are TOLD, this is way things are, it's very, very hard to see the world any differently.

Nobody should "believe" in science. By definition, science is not a thing to be "believed" in.

Defintion: Belief is the state of mind in which a person thinks something to be the case, with or without there being empirical evidence to prove that something is the case with factual certainty.

Note that the very definition of "Belief" is to accept a thing WITHOUT empirical evidence, however science is BASED on empirical evidence therefore it is IMPOSSIBLE to "Believe in" science. You either KNOW science, or you are ignorant of science. There is NO BELIEF in science

Be careful of semantics. Science is not EVER to be equated to a belief system like religion so do not accord science and religion in similar platforms by saying one ought to "believe" in science. No one ought to "believe" in science. They ought to "believe" in religion or philosophy, but must KNOW science.

Not going to lie I wasn't sure of the exact definition of empirical evidence so I googled it and this is what I got: 
Empirical evidence is information acquired by observation or experimentation. This data is recorded and analyzed by scientists and is a central process as part of the scientific method.
It claims to be info acquired by observation. 
My question: when have you ever observed the big band? 
It also claims to be info acquired by experimentation: 
My question: can you recreate it? 
So therefore, by your own account, how is "knowing" the Big Bang any different from any other belief system? You believe a bunch of theory's that scientist, based on their own principles, cannot prove

We all believe differently. I don't understand who people can be surrounded by so much scientific evidence and still believe. But I also don't understand how anyone can like the color brown since it only reminds me of poo and other nasty things. Believing in a religion is a personal feeling. It doesn't have to male since to the rest of the world as long as it makes the person happy.
