Our cloth diaper choice!

I am so excited that we have chosen to cloth diaper. I had wanted to with my daughter but as a single mom with her in daycare 99% of the time it just didn't happen. I have ordered plenty for our stockpile and I am so excited for them to come in!! Is it okay to use homemade laundry detergent with them? I've found it is the best for my family who has extremely sensitive skin. If you have any advice I would love to hear it.
